Oral and Oropharyngeal cancers are on the rise across the country (and world). Sadly, one person dies every hour of every day from this terrible disease and many of those affected are younger, non-smoking adults. As a dental hygienist, I screen every patient every day for signs and symptoms that can hopefully save a life. I personally have had family and friends diagnosed with this form of cancer and I can assure you that early detection and education make a difference!
When I lived in Illinois I organized an annual walk/run fundraiser for the Foundation. Recently, due to Covid, many of the annual events that the foundation depends on have needed to be canceled. In August, the foundation is trying to support "virtual events" as an alternative to a large scale events that may put us at risk. So this weekend, I'd like you to join my team and walk or bike ride to support the Oral Cancer Foundation. I personally will be walking at Waterton Canyon on Saturday morning, August 8th around 9am. You can join me there, OR you can walk or bike ride in your own neighborhood to support this cause...OR you can just simply donate (any amount is appreciated) to help us reach our goal.
